R.E

In R.E this half-term we are looking at the question:

If God is everywhere, why go to a place of worship?

Today, we're going to start to think about what is a place of worship and what is it for?
I would like you to think of three features that a place of worship has. Then I would like you to write a sentence or two about how each feature helps people to worship.

For example: Places of worship have a holy book and this helps people worship because it contains the teachings and beliefs of the religion.

English

Continuing our 'making sentences of three' writing game:

Today we are going to try sentences of three for action.

Example: She ran down the lane, turned the corner and giggled.

How would you classify the underlined words? These are the three words that describe the action, so you need THREE VERBS in your sentence!

Your turn ... write a sentence of three for action about a policeman.

Finally, we are going to write a sentence of three to make a point.

Example: A new supermarket would bring jobs to the town, provide a focal point for shoppers and ease local car parking problems.

Your turn ... write a sentence of three to make a point for keeping healthy (think about yesterday's PSHCE session).

Making sentences of three - writing game

The power of three is a well-known device used by writers. In this game, we will produce sentences with three chunks. Today, we will write sentences of three for description of an object, a character and a setting.

Example description of an object

The clock had a rusted frame, a scratched face and patches of its original vibrant colour.

Your turn ... write a sentence of three to describe the candle.

Example description of a character:

The queen was wicked, manipulative and evil-spirited.

Your turn ... write a sentence of three to describe the king.

Example description of a setting:

The room was smothered in cobwebs clinging to every corner, vegetation crept through the flapping doors and tatty chairs stood unloved and filthy.

Your turn ... write a sentence of three to describe the shed.
