Every Friday spellings will be uploaded to this blog so that you can support your child in learning them for a test the following Friday. They will be practising them in school, but any extra practise at will undoubtedly help them. A MyMaths task will also be set which will consolidate the work we have done in class.

The
Egyptian Cinderella
Long ago, in the land of Egypt where
the emerald Nile river flows into the azure water of the Mediterrean sea, lived
a young girl named Rhodopis. Rhodopis had been kidnapped from Greece by pirates
and was now a servant for a kind man. But, because she looked so different from
all the other servant girls, they taunted her and spat out demands like, “Go to
the river to wash my clothes!” “Bake the bread!” “Mend my robe!”
One evening, as she danced barefoot
in the illuminating spotlight of the moon; twirling, with her feet barley
touching the ground, her master spotted her and was so overwhelmed by such
unique talent that he ordered her the most exquisite pair of rose-red shoes,
gilded in gold. However, the other servant girls overflowed with jealousy and
hatred for her even more.
Meanwhile, on the other side of Egypt, the Pharoah was holding a magnificent celebration where everyone was invited. Desperately, our heroine pleaded to go, but the evil girls forced her to stay and do their jobs whilst they rowed away down the Nile, cackling like malevolent geese. Blinking away silent tears, Rhodopis washed their clothes in the river. But as she swirled her hands in the water, she splashed her precious shoes. Panicked, she quickly took them off and left them on the bank to dry. Then, swiftly, and without a sound, a ghost-like falcon swooped down, snatching one of them! Strangely, she was in calm awe for she knew it was the god Horus who had taken her shoe.
Meanwhile, at the celebrations, the Pharoah
suddenly saw this same bird gliding down and watched in amazement as it dropped
the slipper in his lap. Knowing it was a sign from Horus, he sent out an order
that all girls in Egypt must try on the slipper and the owner would become his
queen.
Days passed, with no owner uncovered,
until the Pharoah eventually found himself magically drawn to Rhodopis whom the
servant girls had tried to hide. Following his instincts, the King discovered
her trembling in the rushes and gently placed her tiny foot in the shoe. It fit
perfectly! Instantly, bursting with love, the Pharoah asked her if she would be
his queen….

Friend Wanted
My name is Eoin and I’ve recently moved to the area. Here’s a little bit about me:
• I’m 232 years old so I’m full of interesting stories;
• I love dancing, singing and flying;
• I prefer the night and don’t like being out in the day;
• I don’t bite (that’s an important one). I’m looking for a friend to hang out with. Preferably, someone with similar interests. Please, don’t be put off by my fangs, cape or odd eating habits. Honestly, I’m not looking for a meal: just a friend. I look forward to hearing from you.
1. Name one activity that Eoin enjoys.
2. I’ve recently moved to the area. Write a different word that means the same as area.
3. I don’t bite (that’s an important one). Why do you think that Eoin has chosen to include the words that’s an important one?
4. Why should people become friends with Eoin?

LO: Why is Jesus inspiring to some people? Understanding symbolic language
Symbols for Jesus: what do they mean?
Ask yourself, “If I was an animal, a car, a colour, an item of clothing, a kind of food, a place anywhere on earth, I’d be… because…”
Was this an easy or a hard thing to think about?
Here are pictures that represents the ‘I am’ sayings of Jesus.
He said: I am the Light, the Bread of Life, the Door, the Good Shepherd, the Way, Truth, Life, the Resurrection, the True Vine.
Think carefully about each picture. What does it / he / she do? Why might it / he / she be important?
What do they think Jesus was trying to say about himself? Note down your ideas. Don’t try to look at all seven – choose two or three.
Now you are going to create some symbolic ‘I am…’s for yourself!
Draw an outline shape of a person and divide it into 7 sections. Now draw a picture for one or all of the ‘I am…’ sayings inside this outline and explain what it means.
